I find it interesting that the new Valkyries actually split apart and reform when they transform. I guess the toys will have tear-apart transformations?
No they don't. Check the trailer video (from the first post) at 1:29. There are two sets of swing-bars:
First set connects the legs to the nose, just forward of the cockpit (Actually it's not exactly a "swing-bar", it looks like the lower-back part of the nose assembly hinges forward with the legs...)
Second set connects the chest to the nose, near the back of the cockpit - Seems like it may actually be the same pivot point as the first... (These "swingbars" are actually the pointy forward bits of the fuselage to the left and right of the cockpit in fighter mode...)
So the first set causes the legs to hinge forward, from their initial position just aft of the cockpit to their new position below the cockpit. The second set rotates the whole cockpit-assembly around so it can tuck itself neatly under the folded-up fuselage. With the nose section reoriented, the legs wind up in front of the cockpit...
I think it's an interesting design. There's elements of other VFs in there - the folding nose from the '19 or the SV-51... legs are a bit YF-21ish... The design does a good job of organizing and rearranging its bulk - better than the VF-1 or VF-0 designs did... The fuselage width, for instance, was always a problem with those designs. Too narrow and it looked bad in fighter mode, too wide and it looked bad in battroid mode... So transforming versions always had to compromise. I think there's a lot less compromise in how the VF-25 works. It's like they took the cool bits of the SV-51 and turned it into something that looks a little more heroic in battroid mode.
Seriously... Compare SV-51 and VF-25 side-by-side... For the fighter, remove those awful canards from the '51... For the battroid, scale down the SV-51 shoulders drastically, replace the head, and make the chest a tad narrower... It's not a match but the similarities are very obvious...
