Well, after seeing so many kits of this character at WF, I decided to looking into who she is and why she is so popular.

Here is the full info on Wiki:

Bascally she's the character image for a singing synthesizer application software. Just imput music & melody and the program will "sing".

Her own theme song:

Samples of of her synthesizer ability....

Here's an interesting piece about her. I only had the vaguest idea about her before (i.e. I only knew her as a vocaloid but I had no idea what it meant).

Yeah her theme song is rather catchy. Didn't like her other renditions so much though, though I suspect the lack of dancing animation (By Miku) may have something to do with it.

Oh sweet, I just realized she's capable of foreign songs as well. I just might have to pick up a copy of this software.

Lol, guess not. But I guess it's too much to expect perfect pronunciation.

This is fascinating to me - I was in choir in Jr. High and still enjoy singing.

Here a couple vids that show the software "working" (motion screen caps of timelines running during the songs).

I do find it somewhat fascinating myself. The songs generated by the program is pretty close to real singing. Makes you wonder what it'll be like in a few more years. Right now the program can only generate that one type of cute girl voice, but I wonder if it is possible for them to eventually develop it into something that can create different vocals including male singing.

I did notice the program lends it self much better to softer catchy pop music and depending on the person handling the program.

This one is really well done, it's fine-tuned and almost indistinguishable from a real human.

2 others songs I kinda like:

But Singing in other language is still off...

Just found out there are actually more vocaloids...

Vocaloid duet twin Kagamine Rin & Len:
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=VTRJuBX0cs4

Vocaloid Meiko (from vocaloid 1) with a more mature female voice:
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=yahkAE5tRG8

And the only male Vocaloid Kaito (also from vocaloid 1):
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=NtTBZW0DHVo

Best song I found generated by Kaito. Paprika ending theme.

I want to see someone use a vocaliod to do the Paranoia Agent theme now since they're by the same person.

...Okay I just had my mind shattered.

Some of you know the game Portal right? If you do you know the end theme song...

You guessed it, someone had Miku do "Still Alive"
First in English...
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=_12b6Om758Q
Then in Japanese!
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=qvRqnd4ymus

For those of you that dont know; The original was done by GLaDOS which was the digitally altered voice of actress Ellen McLain made to sound electronic, which made it funny to have that voice sing the end theme. Obviously the mind breaking part is having a "real" digitally synthesized voice try to sing the same song.

For referance the REAL song can be heard here.

I just downloaded Hatsune Miku... the program seems a little daunting at first but within 30 minutes of installing the program and *ahmcrakingithhmm* I've already gotten her to sing her name... now if only I knew notes and could read sheet music!

This could take a while.

That would be an awesome undertaking... untill then though they're going the easy route... I swear, merging memes like this is going to destroy the universe eventually:
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2--QsbOzV1c

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=RZ7XuVlOT5o

When I first saw this I thought it was a paper model animated with stop motion photography but as it goes along you'll realize that it's much more! very cool!

One step closer to a truly virtual idol, Watch out Sharon Apple
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=5spuwsAeoIo

People are REALLY haveing fun with these characters... and heavy equipment!
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=7ErBu6HAb-E

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2r3mJnGztLI

WTF!?? This has to be seen to be believed!
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=QQ7pc55Wtxg

And finally, this was just mad cute. If I'm not mistaken this is the song used for the meme that always has someone spinning a leak.. pay attention to the animation in this, it really deserves serious props for the little subtleties.
