okay so when I put my Iwata HP C- Plus on this airbrush stand the airbrush is pointing at a downward angle and it is leaking paint...
so then.... maybe I thought that I didn't tighten the nozzle enough... big mistake because I ended up breaking it.... I'm going to my local hobby town to look for the part... but the question is why is it leaking? maybe thats why it was on sale for 9600 yen on HLJ because it was defective? thanks in advance! Oh and does the HP-C Plus have to have #9 on this chart as I never remember seeing it when I first took it apart...is it inside the airbrush? here is the link

I found someone selling a Badger 250 Basic set for around $7. Just like this here:

It's pre-owned and at least a couple of years old. I want to learn using an AB and I do not want to shell out for a brand new set just yet.

Do ABs "degrade" after sometime? Say with the usual use (and unintentional abuse).

Well a decent AB can last a long time as long as its properly maintained. Even if you buy it and it doesn't work well you could break it down and give it a good cleaning.

if the needle wasn't set correctly, then it is possible to leak.

when the AB is closed, the needle should be pressing against the nozzle. this stops paint from coming out. in normal operation, the trigger pulling back draws the needle back and allows paint to flow.

if the needle isn't pressing against the nozzle, then paint will flow/leak out even if the trigger isn't pulled back.

the needle is held in place by the thumbscrew inside the AB body cutout. #24 in the diagram:

yeah lacquer can eat trough acrylic paint. So try to avoid that. (you can make it work by doing a few VERY fine mists of lacquer over the the acrylic before applying more lacquer... but try that out on something you don't want to have ruined first )
