Hi all,
Just thought I'd post this link. It's a site with tons of great 3D meshes. All free too :-) Lots of outer space stuff & there is even a couple of Gundam meshes. I seem to remember there was the RX-78 from the original first series. Also the Heavy Arms (HA) & the Death Scythe (DS) from Wing. Sadly for me nothing from Seed/Destiny. So if I did get around to attempting to make some custom stuff for my Sims 3 game, I'd have to do a lot of mesh 'tweaking'. While I don't mind playing around with the meshes, what I really hate texturing.
Anyway, most of these meshes are too high in poly count, to use them straight into any computer game. Most of these items were just designed for a static display, not to be animated. Also most of them don't have any textures either. Either way, there are tons of great stuff on the site. If anybody is interested in 3D meshing, that is, ha ha.
The files can be downloaded in complete groups. Just make sure you download the file type your 3D meshes program can handle. A little warning, the complete files are rather large. They are also in Zip formatte, so you'll need to use an unzip program. I'd recommend sticking to downloading just the OBJ & the 3DS formattes, as they are the most universally used by the cheaper 3D meshing programs. As far as programs go, well you could use the free open source program Blender. But it's user interface is quite annoying. Most people who make stuff for the Sims 3 game (& other games too), use the shareware program called Milkshape 3D. You can use that one for about 30 days free, before it stops you from saving your work & you have to buy the program. You can still use it to view meshes though. Anyway, if you are interested in either of those programs, you can google for the links to them.

Hi all! Sorry that I'm answering myself, ha ha, instead of editing. Just thought I'd add some other interesting 3D sites, that I've been poking around on recently. I've been searching the internet for suitable 3D Gundam meshes for use in the Sims 3. It's taken quite a bit of digging, as I'm only interested in 'free' models. My quest has lead to some interesting places, off the usual 3D model beaten path (I guess you could say, ha ha). So, here are some links to sites with Gundam 3D models:
This one has some in Warcraft format (MDX):
Look under the heading 'Models'. There are several categories that you can look through, but I don't remember which has the Gundams. Try the first three sub-categories. There should be about 3 or 4 different downloads of them. One of these downloads is really cool, as it is a multi-pack with quite a few of them together. It even has the Freedom! The Strike is also on the site somewhere, but it's not named. Oh, also keep an eye out for the download for Code Geass, as it's also a multipack. It has some of the machines from the series. The rest are models of the people.
I don't have Warcraft, so I don't know what these models look like in that game. My interest in them is just for the 3D models. Of course, they have to be converted to a useable format. The 3D modelling program 'Milkshape 3D' does have import & export for lots of games & regular 3D file formats. The MDX format of Warcraft is one of them. It worked on some of the models that I've downloaded from this site, but sadly not all of them. For the 'stubborn ones' I had to hunt around for something else. I'll include the link to a very nice simple DOS type program that I found, that can convert the MDX to OBJ very quickly. Though the out-put 3D mesh is sort of sideways, when viewed later in Milkshape. They have also lost their connection to their textures. But then those will have to be redone anyway.

The link to the MDX to OBJ converter program. Click the link on the page for the download. You can get the other one too if you want, but I've not tried that one. To use it, just unzip the file into a folder you make yourself. Then get your MDX file & drag & drop it onto the program's EXE file. A DOS window with pop up & you type the MDX's file name (exactly as it is, plus the MDX file extention), into the first line & then hit Enter. On the second line, type the same name again, but this time instead of the MDX file extention, put OBJ. Then hit Enter & your file with be converted. It should appear in the same folder as your MDX file. Check & make sure it is there, as it won't be if you spelled the file wrong or forgot to change to OBJ. Oh, also make sure the OBJ isn't listed as 0 bytes. If it is, then there is something wrong with the MDX. On a side note, I still had to use Milkshape on these stubborn ones, even when they wouldn't produce the mesh. As Milkshape 'did' spit-out the textures for them.

This site has some more Gundam models, but this time they are in Quake 3 Arena format (PK3). This is a packed format, not a 3D one. So unzip your downloads, then carefully the change the PK3 file extension on each file to ZIP. Then use your unzip program to unzip them again. There should be lots of files inside of these. Some aren't useable, like the files inside folders titled Script & Sound. The sounds are WAV files, so I guess you can listen to them if you want. Look for the files with the extension MDS & any picture type files with them. Most are found in folders named Model, but it varies. Now Milkshape 3D also has an importer for this file format & it does work, so I didn't have to hunt around the internet to find another program. Sorry people with other modelling programs, you are on your own this time. I can't remember what formats Blender has, but I'm sure there are probably plug-ins around somewhere.

When I started all this web-hunting (before I found the Quake & Warcraft models), I first came across these really cool free 3D models of the Freedom & the Providence. But sadly, they weren't useable because they are in MAX format. And as everyone knows, nothing but the hugely expensive ($2000 to $3000) 3D modelling program 3DMAX can open these things. So I started to search the web looking for maybe a plug-in or something. No such luck! I hunted high & low too. Finally, I found some out of date program that somebody said could partly open MAX files (sometimes). It worked on a couple of MAX horse models, but sadly it said there was something wrong with the 2 Gundams. Either that or they are really too 'high a poly' & the converter can't handle them. Anyway, I'll also give you the link to this program. Plus the links to those 2 models, just in case somebody has 3DMAX (you luck millionaire) & wants to try opening them.

The link to the Providence (though this might not be the site for this one)

Either that site or this one, as this one also has some Gundams & other types. This is the site that lead me to the Quake 3 files, as some of the Gundams were in Quake. This site has several different file formats.

Here is the link to this MAX converter program. The download is somewhere down the page:

Anyway, if I come across anything else of interest I'll add it on later.
P.S. Hi to the person who posted & glad you liked the link!
