I didn't know about this until today, go figure. Has anyone tried this option for international to the US? Is if fast? It seems cheaper than Express

I'm curious as well. They just added it (within the past month or two I think). I wish they'd give better approximations of cost when you're ordering, My last order was 4,300 yen, but an additional 3,000 yen in SAL shipping. Ugh.

I have used HLJ FedEx and it is extremely fast. Once they shipped out my order I received it in about three days.

EDIT: Fixed a typo

Too bad the free shipping promo is over anyway.....

Personally id say EMS is ultimately better since it falls into the hands of Canada post, if they do end up charging you taxes on it their handling fee from past experience is usually 10 or 15$ ( + whatever tax amount youve been charged). I think Fedex would probably charge a higher handling fee ( not 100% sure) but to use UPS as an example, I bought something from the US for 50$ and i was charged 4$ for import taxes, however their handling fee for the dang paper work to charge that 4$ was 29$ ontop of it :( Im thinking fedex would charge along those lines . . . . but they work under the clause of anything 20$ and under as a regular sale item wont be charged for import duties, however if its marked gift anything under a 60$ value wont be charged import fees ( or the handling fee lol). If its anything above those amounts, its the wallet vacuum for you!

Wow, thx Talonvar, that's a pretty detail explanation.

I had UPS tragedy a long time ago...; forgot if Fedex is just as bad.

I tried digging up ways to remedy such situation, from ebay forums -
though they usually talked about Can-US shipping compensation and etc.

EMS is the same for me. $10 to near $20 range...
Soon I figured that SAlsmallpac is the best to beat handling & custom challenge,
is that a constant situation, for Sal? (That is, smaller size, smaller weight)

I guess there's lesser ways to shop here as time goes.

I haven't tried Fedex and I wanted to know really.

Minor comments regarding the types of services:
UPS They are fast, but if you aren't home for the 2 attempts, you have to drive to its select warehouses that are pretty far + duties and costs that might incur.
EMS delivery takes upto 6 weekdays, if you aren't home for 1 attempt, you can pick them up at local postal office.
SAL upto 3 weeks time, upto 2kg and dimension limit, about 1/3- 1/2 cost of EMS and best for small items (duh).

Honestly, in my (local) experience I found that Fedex is much better than UPS

I have used HLJ's Fed-ex service

this is VERY important!

the larger the box, the more you are going to pay!
do NOT use Fed-ex for large orders!
if things are very heavy, do not use fed-ex either!
a big problem is that HLJ does not give shipping quotes so when you look at single items fed-ex looks like a good deal
but price scaling is not the same, just keep that in mind

shipping was real fast, and they left the package at the door
fed-ex is great if you have one or two items and want to get it the same week
