Preview/Review

Probably the most common Gundam Wing related modeling questions ever were based on B-club's kits. Why did they (Bandai) never make a kit for the 1/100 Sandrock and Heavyarms? To simply put it, they did. However the kits are made by Bandai's resin productions team, B-Club. This particular kit was sculpted by Noriyuki Kawasaki in 1996. One year prior to Gundam Wing's Japanese debut. While we may never know the true reason why Sandrock and Heavyarms never got the injection 1/100 HG, common belief is it was simply due to to poor reception in sales of the 1/144 versions of the designs.

Today, I will give you guys a peek into the almost extinct kit. Originally sold for a meer 15,800jpy (about $200usd today due to the exchange rate) this kit will sell for near double on yahoo japan auctions if your lucky enough to find it. (You usually will find the space version (Kai) that appeared in season 2 of WING for a bit cheaper. Which is odd as it includes more parts. Must be the fanbase of the original design.)

A look at the package, (apologies about flash in some of the pictures)

To the naysayers of this B-club being pirated...

Beautifully sculpted hands (considering the fat original design) that would make Tetsujin and Amy-chan blush.

I get from this that you enjoy a drink from time to time. haha That aside I've always like the sandrock. You didn't want to wait for the MG? Or do you like the way this one look better?

Sexay!

I see a Heavyarms on Mandarake - but I should not spend more cashes on kits that will end up in the pile.  I would suggest modernizing the Okawara proportions by elongating the arms and legs - but please, do carry on with the review!  (if there is more)

You're right about the hands, but I wanna also see some underskirt and underfoot porn!

Looking for:

About that H-arms... I actually bought that one a week ago. Its been processing forever. I guess it is what they call a storefront item meaning it is physically forsale in on of their shops. Trouble is it is currently unknown which store so they are searching (last order update.) I have a h2 heavyams already but I have yet to see an original h1 (single gat/non-space) cross the auction block at all. So I figured I'm gonna have to 'downgrade' it.

Modenization is a must. I really need to consider if I want to do a joint swap on this one (hesitation due to price of resin kit.) Its gotta look good next to my MG shenlong (tv) and MG wing gundam. Currently it is bathing in cleaner and will so all week. (That give me time to start on bashing the HG Deathscythe with the new MG do due some justice... er I mean I should be working on my GP03s... :(

Panty shots this weekend after she gets out of the shower, promise :) Though I don't think there is much detail there.

lol Rinkya you got that shit right... they handle your wallet like it's a virgin about to get ravaged in the bung hole. I swear to god they charged my like 5000 yen to ship gundam parts the size of an HG model but like 1/4 the weight. those guys are a bunch of crooks and I would warn everyone from baby jesus to that annoying guy no one likes in your class... yes you know that guy... there is always one and it never ceases to amaze me.

Slight thread derail - apologies B)

Alrighty, been using Rinkya for quite sometime, and all this talk about SMJ got me curious.
Planning to get this thru SMJ, can someone please give me even a rough estimate how much it'll be delivered CONUSA. Tips from long time SMJ users appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys.

item costs about $40 USD

add $8 commission (additional $2 since it is a shop order) + due to the location it will go to their tokyo office and you can have it either SAL or EMS shipped. (Using EMS you'll get it in about a week) Shipping should cost you. About $8. (I have similar costing order (2 1/144 kits) so package in size/weight should be similar mine cost $7.25 to ship (to the center of the US too)

so I'd venture and say you will have to pay just under $60 USD.

Thanks Kiske, can't believe I've been paying so much using Rinkya all this time.
One more question. Upon registration they will ask you to deposit funds using pay pal. Is that amount usable for
SMJ purchases? Thanks again.

You have to make a deposit. That deposit is multiplied by their rate (x5) and sets the total amount you can spend or bid with. So if you use the deposit to pay for the items you win your amount you can bid on and by will go down.

So if you send $50 via paypal for your deposit that gets multiplied by 5. So your deposit is worth 250 (50x5=250) $250USD = about 19,692 yen. So you can buy or bid on any item up to that limit of 19,692.

When you win an item or buy one they will send you a bill for the total amount of the item plus the commission fee (you can view the commission fee's here, it goes up in $$$ as the price of the item goes up http://shoppingmallj...eneralfees.html )

You can either pay for the item using your deposit or pay using paypal. If you pay for the item using your deposit remember you will only be able to bid on items up to the remaining deposit balance. So if you have $50usd in there (x5=19,692yen) and pay for a $30item. You will only be able to bid no more than your new balance will let you (30x5=150 or 11,815yen.)

Once they get your item from the seller and it is at their japan office it will sit there until you tell them to ship the item(s). When you login to SMJ there is a page that will show you the status of your order. So you will know when they have it. You then fill out the "request shipment" page and they will send you an invoice for shipping. Pay it or just have your deposit cover it. They will then ship it.

Now that I look at it, the problem portions on sandrocks is not the really arms and legs height. Its that they are very bulky and round. The leg look short but are same as MG Wing Gundam. The lower leg is partially hidden by the bulky foot guard. Bulky fat feet, no middle torso and the oversized shoulders don't help too.

I'd like it to look sleek like the VP SR2 Kai. But of the original design.

Small nitpick: the Gundam Wing TV series aired in Japan early 1995.  So the kit actually came after the TV series had started.

The kits that you have there are not lined up along the same plane: I cannot venture to compare the relative proportions in this way.  However, that said, I'd recommend lengthening the lower legs near the shin before the ankle guard as well as the middle part of the thigh.

I personally feel as though this kit is very TV-accurate.  It looks like it should: but that's an outdated look.  I'm not a fan of the TV series designs - Sandrock being the worst of the Gundams - but it is not without its charm.  I think that the kit would really call for some limb lengthening to look up to date with today's anorexic and feminine style (which admittedly looks very pleasing!).I won't hold my breath and wait for an MG of the TV Sandrock design, so I do (in some ways) look forward to owning a resin kit of this heinously ugly bugger.  So if you spot one, send me a note.  Bandai must have thought that the sale of the 1/144 kit was too low to warrent making a 1/100 mold of said design.  I doubt that age would have fans appreciate said ugly more than before.

I think the proportions on that Sandrock are just fine.  Don't know what you guys are on about...

I agree with tetsujin. I was under the impression that the bulky feet and the huge wing-like shoulders were the appeal.

Compared to modern MG kits, this things looks pretty subpar. But I imagine back when it was released this would have been an amazing kit.
